This cup was wheel thrown and trimmed before being hand burnished with a stone. Variations in the surface color are caused by placement in the fire and the organic materials that may have burned nearby. Firing in a pit does not bring the clay to a high enough temperature to vitrify, therefore, these pit fired items are not food safe and should be used for decorative purposes only.
