This catch all dish was hand built and burnished to give it a natural smooth surface and shine without using glaze. Variations in the surface color are caused by placement in the fire and the organic materials that may have burned nearby. This dish was saggar fired with small leaves which have left a ghost images on the dish. Firing in a pit does not bring the clay to a high enough temperature to vitrify, therefore, these pit fired items are not food safe and should be used for decorative purposes only.
